Bonneville Jail Release Destinations
BCSO operates this adult county jail. Leaving it can mean release on bond, a court-ordered release, completion of a county sentence, or a supervised arrangement such as work release. It can also mean transfer to the Idaho Department of Correction, another county, a hospital, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody. Those outcomes are not equivalent. A community release ends the jail stay, but the criminal case may remain open. A transfer ends this facility’s custody while another authority continues to hold the person.
The current roster cannot make that distinction by itself. Its fields are limited to an image, inmate ID, name, location, and update time. BCSO also warns that a person on work release, house arrest, ankle monitoring, or temporary court release may remain represented even while away from the building. Conversely, a person who vanishes from the list may have moved to another authority. Ask for the release disposition, destination, and receiving agency, not merely whether the name remains online.
Confirm a Bonneville Jail Release
Begin with the BCSO current inmate list and note its displayed timestamp. If the person is listed, the entry supports a current administrative status but not always physical presence. If the person is absent, call the jail and ask whether the event was release to the community or transfer. Request the effective date and time, the basis for release, and the name of any agency that assumed custody.
- Check the timestamped BCSO list and record the inmate ID and location, if shown.
- Call 208-529-1315 when the result is missing, stale, or marked with a location such as work release or elsewhere.
- Search Idaho VINE or call 1-866-984-6343 for a release or transfer event from the contributing agency.
- Review the Idaho iCourt register for bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, warrant, or transfer orders.
- Request the booking and release record when an exact time, disposition, or receiving agency is needed.
Use two facts for a recent event. A court order can establish the legal basis, while VINE or the jail record establishes the custody event. The full Bonneville County released-inmate search guide explains how state, federal, and county systems fit together. No single missing roster entry proves freedom from all custody.
Bonneville Jail Release Records
The jail is at 900 Environmental Way, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401. Jail operations are available around the clock at 208-529-1315, but records work does not necessarily follow jail operating hours. BCSO Records is in the Law Enforcement Building at 605 N. Capital Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402. The records number is 208-529-1350, option 5.
Request wording
Use the BCSO online records portal and identify the full name, date of birth or inmate ID if known, booking date range, arresting agency, and court case number. Ask for the booking record, actual release date and time, release basis or disposition, destination or receiving agency if transferred, and booking photograph. Request electronic delivery and an advance fee estimate.
Bonneville County’s policy may require enough detail to locate the file, as well as requester contact information and a residency declaration when resident terms are claimed. Exempt, sealed, medical, security, active-investigation, and private facts may be withheld or redacted. A portal receipt proves only that a request was filed. It is not itself evidence of release.
Inside Bonneville County Jail
The Detention Team handles jail operations, court transport and security, warrants, medical and food functions, and work-release and work-detail programs. The present facility opened in November 1998 with an original capacity of 284 beds. Its operational capacity later expanded to 533. Wood Court, a local problem-solving court program, began at the jail in 2009, when work release also expanded.
Those programs explain why location and legal custody can diverge. A person may be outside an ordinary cell yet still subject to jail or court control. The roster is sparse by design, and BCSO says its system cannot display exact charges or bond amounts there. The court register and the booking/release record carry facts the current list omits. Jail operations can confirm the immediate status; BCSO Records can provide the durable record, subject to lawful limits.
The two successful facility images in the manifest document the official local sources. The sheriff’s jail overview provides the building history and capacity.

The captured page anchors those facility facts to BCSO rather than to a directory. The separate Detention Team page describes the operating units and jail contact route.

Together, the sources show why a facility call and a formal records request answer different parts of a release question.
Bonneville Jail Bond Release
BCSO distinguishes a surety bond from a cash bond. A surety bond uses a bondsman for a fee. A cash bond requires the full amount, and the sheriff’s instructions accept cashier’s checks and money orders. A separate sheriff’s bond fee of $10 applies to each bond and is paid separately in exact change. That fee is not a records-copy fee.
Bond secures a person’s appearance in court. It does not resolve the charge or close the case. Money posted as cash bond can later be applied to costs or fines after the case is decided. Confirm payment instructions directly with the jail or court. BCSO has warned about demands involving gift cards or cryptocurrency. A bond order or payment expectation also does not prove the person has completed processing and walked out; verify the actual custody event.
Bonneville Jail Transfers to ICE
A release from the Bonneville jail to ICE is a transfer, not a return to the community. An immigration detainer can ask the jail for notice and for additional holding, generally up to 48 hours beyond the time a person otherwise would be released, so ICE can assume custody. Record the receiving agency and the transfer time before following the person into the federal system.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator System can help after transfer, but its public result may lag. It also keeps some people released from ICE custody searchable for only 60 days. A county roster disappearance followed by no lasting ICE result is therefore not a durable release record. Use the jail disposition, ICE identifier when available, and the federal record together.
Idaho Falls Facilities Differ
Three nearby names can cause a major error. The adult county jail stands at 900 Environmental Way. The 16-bed 3B juvenile center is next door at 950 Environmental Way but follows juvenile confidentiality rules. The Idaho Falls Community Reentry Center is an IDOC site elsewhere in the city. Its minimum-custody residents remain in state custody while preparing for release.
The county jail opened in 1998, while IF-CRC opened in 1996. Both can be part of a person’s custody path, yet they create different records. BCSO holds the county booking and release record. IDOC status, sentencing records, and Commission action govern the state path. Physical closeness or a reentry label never substitutes for identifying the legal custodian.
After a Bonneville Jail Release
Release from the jail does not always close the underlying court file. A person leaving on bond may still face hearings and conditions. Someone released after serving a county sentence can have later docket entries. Probation is a court-ordered form of community supervision, while parole follows release from state prison custody. The iCourt register can preserve orders and later case events after the short roster entry is gone.
Property also follows separate routes. Personal items held for an inmate can be picked up by a named person only after the inmate completes BCSO’s authorization form, and the recipient must show identification. Property or evidence held in a case requires ownership or authorization review through a different BCSO process. After approval, pickup is generally arranged by appointment through the courthouse records office during its stated weekday window. Neither kind of property release proves that the person was discharged from custody.
For immediate local needs after a confirmed community release, the sheriff’s pre-release guide lists Idaho Falls recovery, health, crisis, legal, 2-1-1, and District 7 contacts. Idaho Falls also uses GIFT, an on-demand point-to-point transit service within city limits. No official jail shuttle, fixed release time, family waiting area, or weekend release schedule was found. Confirm availability and pickup details rather than assuming a ride will be waiting at the jail.
